Budapest - A Historical Architectural Dream!

Budapest - A Historical Architectural Dream!

During our last visit to Budapest we stayed at the Callas House Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel that has opened its doors since December 2016. It is located at the renowned Andrassy Street, the high-end boulevard, which has been recognized as a World Heritage site since 2012. The hotel is based next to the Hungarian State Opera House, which is known for its stunning neo-Renaissance interior.

The entrance of the hotel is next to its Café and Restaurant, an elegant dining room with a beautiful high-arched ceiling. The Café provides the perfect setting to have a piece of “Opera” cake with a glass of Bollinger. Outside on the terrace of the hotel, you will be able to enjoy the view of the Opera House and see the world passing by.

Callas House is an old family mansion built in 1881 and can be entered through the discrete front door by ringing the bell. When we stepped foot in the hallway we were stunned. We stood in the spacious hall and looked around at the beautiful art-deco architecture and the mosaic flooring. The mansion has several apartments, which are occupied by Embassies and other reputable institutions and it also has a beautiful court yard. The hotel is based on the third floor and once we came out of the elevator a friendly hotel employee was awaiting us. We were guided through the check-in relatively fast and received a dozen tips for our stay in Budapest. We also received a free-upgrade to the Deluxe Room, which was a nice little extra for us!

After we were guided to our room, we were left alone to take it all in. WOW, what a classy ambiance! The rooms are designed in a very unique way, they have been given a modern touch while the authenticity has been kept, with the eye-catcher being a medieval style chandelier. The bathroom is super classy being fully white with golden tabs and details. The perfect setting for a romantic bathing experience ;) Our room had a view of the Opera House and we felt like we travelled back in time! So much beauty and history!

Even though the hotel is very intimate, the reception is open 24 hours and the professional staff are on standby to assist you with your needs. The breakfast is served downstairs at the restaurant with its grand interior and has a nice variety of pastries and fresh fruit.

The location of the hotel is excellent, providing you with easy access to various landmarks.

Our second day of the trip, we took a walking tour through the Jewish District. We started off at the St. Stephens Basilica, followed by the Dohany Street Synagogue and ending up at the Brudern House. You must make sure to try the famous “Flodni” cake, a typical Hungarian Jewish sweet dessert consisting of several tasty layers. The Jewish District has a great vibe and has countless hip bars and restaurants!

Furthermore, the hotel is about a 15-minute walk away from Café New York, which is known for its ornate interior and has been voted to be one of the most beautiful Café’s in Europe! If you want to try a good local wine we suggest having dinner at Aszú Étterem. This restaurant is walking distance from the hotel and has lots of excellent local wines on offer. We enjoyed a lovely Hungarian beef stew (Marhapörkölt) along with a terrific Cabernet Franc wine called “Bakonyi Péter”. Highly recommended! Finish the evening, at the High Note Sky Bar for a fancy cocktail with a lit-up St. Stephens Basilica in the background.

Around midnight, we walked our way over the chain bridge across the Danube and enjoyed Budapest at night. What an incredible city! Lots of greenery, stunning architecture, tasty food, quality beer and a great vibe. When we returned to our hotel room, I laid down on the big comfy bed and realized that our stay at Callas House had been an unforgettable experience;

Budapest, I will be back <3!
